Interview with Tiffany King, Author of No Attachments!

Hi everyone! Today, I have an interview with the lovely Tiffany King, author of No Attachments!

Meet Tiffany!

Alyssa: Hi, Tiffany! Thank you for joining me today!

Tiffany: Thank you so much for having me Alyssa. I'm a big fan.

Alyssa: Oooo, I like you too :) For those who don’t know you very well, describe yourself in ten words.

Tiffany:  I'm a jokester and I love my family very much.

Alyssa: (Yes she is. *winks*) Ahem. Describe No Attachments in ten words ;)

Tiffany: Finding love when you didn't think you were really looking.

Alyssa: How did you choose the names “Ashton” and “Nathan” for your two protagonists? Do the names have special meanings related to the characters?

Tiffany: Ashton was named after a little girl I had in my classroom years ago. You're not supposed to have favorites as a teacher, but she was one of mine. I haven't seen her in years, but Ashton, the character's snarky but loving personality fits her to a tee. The name Nathan holds no real significance, but like most of my male protagonists, he is a combination of personality traits from people I come into contact with. Many of his mannerisms come from my husband.

Alyssa: From No Attachments, what is your favorite quote or scene?

Tiffany: That's easy. "Are you going to put your trunk in me?" All I can say is if you read chapter one, this will make sense. I get more reaction from readers who tell me they loved this scene.

Alyssa: Um, yes. That WAS funny :D How long did it take you to write No Attachments?

Tiffany: It took just over a month to get the first draft of the story finished. After that, it went through several rounds of intense edits. I was writing nothing else at the time, so this story had my full concentration.

Alyssa: Ms. Speedy. Will you write anything else set in Ashton and Nathan’s world? A sequel or companion?

Tiffany: I recently finished book 2 in the series. It's called Misunderstandings and tells the story of Brittni, one of Ashton's friends from No Attachments. Right now, the manuscript is in the hands of my agent, so a release date is uncertain at the moment, but I'm really excited and can't wait to share it with everyone.

Alyssa: What’s a drawback of self-publishing your books?

Tiffany: Time for one. When you self-publish, you are handling most of the responsibilities yourself: writing, getting it edited, having a cover made, marketing. It goes on and on. Certainly, there is also a large financial burden attached to those things. Another drawback is the limitations you face when it comes to marketing. If you sign with a large publisher, you may have many more resources at your disposal.

Alyssa: What’s something that you did for No Attachments to stand out in the recent New Adult contemporary romance craze?

Tiffany: With No Attachments, I wanted a story that was character driven that strayed away from the typical good girl meets bad boy plot. Ashton, the main character is hiding for a reason that is not terribly difficult to figure out, but that was my intention. My hope is that the readers will become so emotionally invested with the characters that when the truth comes out they will feel it in their heart, rather than become dependent on some over the top cliff hanger ending.

Alyssa: What is something you must have when writing, outlining, brainstorming, etc.?

Tiffany: Chocolate and more chocolate. Oh, and a Starbucks Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino, and then more chocolate.

Alyssa: Chocolatechocolatechocolatemmmmmmm. Do you hope to be a traditionally published author some day?

Tiffany: I would love to be able to do both at the same time. Right now, my wonderful agent is working on that. Both have different aspects that appeal to me and I think that hybrid status is the direction of the future for most authors.

Alyssa: GOOD LUCK! You'll make it, Tiffany, I'm sure. Well, that’s all I've got! Thank you so much for stopping by, Tiffany!

Tiffany: Thank you so much for letting me chat your ear off.

Alyssa: :P

Summary (from Goodreads):

Ashton Garrison walked away from a privileged life in order to hide from the one thing she's not willing to face. She knows she left behind a trail of pain, but in the long run, her betrayal will hurt less than the truth. She now has one goal: Live life to the fullest with no regrets and no attachments. She has high hopes that a move to new surroundings will provide the escape she desires, but what Ashton doesn't count on is how fate always seems to find a way to screw up any good plan. Sometimes, when love comes knocking, the pull is too strong not to answer. Suddenly, what she thought she wanted to escape from is what Ashton now wants more than anything.

Nathan Lockton has one mission: find his target and complete the task he was hired to do—no attachments and no emotion necessary. He's done it over and over again. What he thought was a typical lost-and-found job has turned into a life examining moment as Nathan is forced to deal with something he has always ignored--his feelings. Now faced with a decision, Nathan must choose to either follow his heart or complete the job.

Love can come when you least expect it. The question is: If the odds are stacked against you, how far are you willing to go for the one you love?
